Felt Shamrock Pins

DIY felt shamrock pins are really inexpensive to make and you can wear them year after year on St. Patrick's Day.

I'm all for a cute shirt, but most of the time I don't think that far ahead. It's also a bit of a waste to make/buy a shirt that you only wear one day a year, especially for kids who grow so fast.

I made these years ago, and they're a quick way to add some festive St. Patrick's Day flair to your outfit without breaking the bank.

Felt Shamrock Pins

Because my birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, my mom always made a big deal about it. It got to the point that we would wear green to bed the night before so she couldn't pinch us first thing in the morning.

She never got us specific clothing to wear, but she always had shamrock stickers we could use if we couldn't find anything green to wear.

These pins are my alternative to the stickers my mom used to always have. They're always there if one of the kids can't find anything green to wear.

These pins are made from felt, so they're really inexpensive to make. I sewed them together by hand with embroidery thread and embellished some of them with seed beads.

HOW TO MAKE FELT SHAMROCK PINS

I started by cutting out some Shamrocks on my Silhouette. You could use a Cricut machine. OR you can just find some shamrock shapes online and print them out.

If you're a good artist, drawing them is a good option too. You will need three different sizes.

Then I traced the shamrocks onto the felt and cut them out.

I sewed the smallest shamrock to the middle sized one. I used a backstitch in alternating thread colors. Next, I sewed the middle shamrock to the large one.

I added beads to every other stitch for some of the pins. I just slid the bead onto the needle before stitching.

For my pin without beads, I added another layer of stitching around the large shamrock.

Then I added the pin to the back. I made sure to sew only to the back layer, so the stitching wasn't visible from the front.
