I talked with an associate at Walmart and she said that as soon as they get some in stock they are gone within the day.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003ESo we opted to order them online. Within 3 days they had arrived. It sure beats having to check the store daily to see if any came in.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EOne thing I like about these shoes is that they don't have a glossy finish. Glossy + paint tends to = peeling. We used acrylic paint for the purple and blue shoes. For the red shoes, I created my own fabric paint using a textile medium. We did not try leather paint or paint pens.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cul style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cli\u003ELeather paint is designed to work well on leather and vinyl. \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2SL6JTP\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EAngelus Leather Paint\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;is a trusted brand and you can get a starter kit with lots of colors.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EFabric paint is designed to be flexible. Because of this there will be less cracking.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAcrylic paint has by far the largest variety of colors available and is the least expensive.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2SNxyGZ\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EPaint pens\u003C\/a\u003E would be easy to control and paint exactly where you want to. However, quality paint pens are quite expensive and a lot of paint would be needed to paint both shoes. My girls actually have some paint pens, but they didn't want to waste them on the shoes.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003ELastly, you can create your own fabric paint using \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/35LhxVb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EFolk Art acrylic paint \u003C\/a\u003Eand \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2S71td3\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EFolk Art textile medium\u003C\/a\u003E. You will combine the paint with the medium to create fabric paint. This gives you a wide array of colors to choose from while adding that flexible quality to the paint.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EI do not recommend using spray paint, unless you want the entire shoe painted. It's a good idea to paint at least two thin coats. And AVOID thick coats of paint. It's better to have two thin layers than one thick one. It will help to prevent the paint from cracking as they are worn. If you look at the picture below, you can see it is the first coat. It's a little uneven and splotchy. Don't worry, the second layer of paint will even it all out.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EUse a small brush. The girls used brushes that were between 1\/4 and 1\/2 inches wide. If your brush is too big it may be frustrating to keep the color where you want it.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETake your time. It is much better to go slow and be careful, than to make mistakes by trying to get it done quickly.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EConsider not painting the top of the shoe. You see that area with all the small holes? That part of the shoe is bent with each step. Since it is used so much, it will be the first area that the paint will crack. To keep your shoes looking nice longer, leave that area white.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EI don't recommend using painter's tape to tape off areas of the shoe. I think that taping off areas gives a false sense of security that paint is not going to go where you don't want it to. The shoes are too curved to get a good seal on the tape and paint can easily slip under it. I found that it took me 4-5 thin coats to completely cover the shoe without splotchy unevenness. I didn't have access to a printer and my art skills are not at the level needed to create what I envisioned.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EInstead, I went simple. Using the embroidery hoop to determine size, I sketched an inner circle along which the buttons would be sewn. You can use transfer paper or you can use a light box. The most versatile option is to use a window, preferably with sunlight coming through it.\u0026nbsp; I find it works really well and I haven't had to spend money on a light box. Or dig through my supplies trying to find transfer paper. I always have access to a window.... even when I'm away from home.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EPlace your pattern on the window, using tape to secure it. Place your fabric on top of the pattern lining it up where you want it. Tape the fabric in place.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EUsing a sharp pencil, trace the pattern onto the fabric. I have always used a pencil. The downside is that it's not really erasable on fabric. I just make sure that my stitching covers it up so I can't see the pencil line.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThere are specialty pens that will dissolve with heat or water. I would love to have one, but I have not yet invested in one.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Ch2\u003EEMBROIDERING THE LETTERS\u003C\/h2\u003ESince my design was so simple, I decided to up my skills and learn a new embroidery stitch. Instead, I trimmed the edges and simply hot glued the fabric to the hoop. Mine was 12 X 12. Then sand it and stain it if desired. Let dry completely.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ENext fold your piece of paper in half and draw a heart. Cut it out. Mine started out too big, but I just trimmed it down a little at a time until it was the right size.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EPlace your paper in the center of your wood. Push the upholstery tacks in around the heart. I tried to keep them evenly spaced, but it's not perfect. I did this by hand. After, I went through with a hammer and pounded some of them so they were all fairly even.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETie the string to a nail. Clip the short tail. Wrap the string randomly from nail to nail. Continue until it looks how you want it.
