Crochet thread is more tightly wound and there is a LOT on the spool. Let's get started:\n\n\u003Col style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGather your supplies.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBegin by cutting 15 pieces of yarn at 9\" for adult size, or 7 1\/2 inches for kids. {You can always start larger and trim it down when you get to the end.} I tried to cut them so that each strand would be all the same color. \u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGather 5 strands of yarn (same color) and place them in the ribbon end. Fold down the top and clamp down each side.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERepeat with the other two colors of yarn. Connect the ribbon ends with a jump ring.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAttach the top to something {I used my jewelry pliers but a clipboard or masking tape would work better.} Braid the yarn down as far as you can go.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETrim the end of one color of yarn and add ribbon clamp. Repeat with the other two colors. Once all the ribbon ends are on, braid one or two more stitches to make sure the braid goes right to the end. I envisioned a wreath of shamrocks with swirls and curly cues. If I was home, I would probably have found a wreath pattern online, printed it off and then incorporated my shamrocks into it.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nHowever, when I made this, I was on a trip. I didn't have access to a printer and my art skills are not at the level needed to create what I envisioned.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nInstead, I went simple. Using the embroidery hoop to determine size, I sketched an inner circle along which the buttons would be sewn. You can use transfer paper or you can use a light box. The most versatile option is to use a window, preferably with sunlight coming through it.\u0026nbsp; I find it works really well and I haven't had to spend money on a light box. Or dig through my supplies trying to find transfer paper. I always have access to a window.... even when I'm away from home.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nPlace your pattern on the window, using tape to secure it. Place your fabric on top of the pattern lining it up where you want it. Tape the fabric in place.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nUsing a sharp pencil, trace the pattern onto the fabric. I have always used a pencil. The downside is that it's not really erasable on fabric. I just make sure that my stitching covers it up so I can't see the pencil line.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThere are specialty pens that will dissolve with heat or water. I would love to have one, but I have not yet invested in one.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Ch2\u003E\nEMBROIDERING THE LETTERS\u003C\/h2\u003E\nSince my design was so simple, I decided to up my skills and learn a new embroidery stitch. I used the \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.embroidery.rocksea.org\/stitch\/chain-stitch\/braided-chain-stitch\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Ebraided chain stitch (see the tutorial)\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp; It creates a thick, almost embossed look. It's pretty slick!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nBut I didn't leave enough fabric all the way around the hoop to do this method. Instead, I trimmed the edges and simply hot glued the fabric to the hoop.
