If you like donuts, then you must try these. They are so good. I think the glaze is just perfect. I only make them once a year, because I cannot stop eating them. They are that good.
This year I decided to do a Boston Cream filling for some of them. I tried one recipe that I found online somewhere and it did NOT turn out. I didn't want to ruin my yummy donuts with a gross filling so I tried a recipe from my trusty Betty Crocker Cookbook. Sometimes the best recipes are right under your nose.
You can find the recipe for the donuts at Food.com
I've adjusted a couple things. I up the yeast to 2 T. and add 1 T. sugar to the yeast and water mixture.
After I cut out the donuts, I let them raise until double, instead of frying them right away.
It is also VERY important to DOUBLE the glaze. Even then I sometimes run out on the last couple donuts.
You can find the Boston Cream filling recipe at the Betty Crocker website.
I just used the cream filling part of the recipe, and piped them into the donuts with a cake decorating bag. You'll want to fill them until it starts squeezing out.
I refrigerated the filled donuts, but not the regular ones.
I'd love to hear what you think of these. If you try them let me know.
This totally made my mouth water

nice idea.. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteUmmm ... Yes Please! These look better than any doughnut shop doughnut I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteYour doughnuts looked SO amazing, that I just wanted to try them! I made them today and they unfortunately didn't turn out at all like yours. They didn't rise enough apparently, they were too big, and the oil made them dark instead of golden brown. I'll try again though... in a few months! lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry they didn't work for you. I've found that it takes some practice making things with yeast - knowing how long they need to rise and such. I wonder if your oil was too hot. Sometimes that happens to me too and they come out too dark, instead of golden brown. Good luck next time :)
DeleteYeah, Im Not Neccesscarily a Mother, Or even a girl in that matter, but i found the nerve to make these for my girlfreind, and they turned out wonderful... she loved them. thanks for idea!
