How to Make a Powdered Sugar Shaker from a Mason Jar

Every once in a while, I come up with an idea that I think is absolutely genius. Not everyone always agrees with me, but that's ok. One such idea was my cinnamon sugar shaker. That idea came in my very first year of blogging. Go ahead and take a look: Cinnamon Sugar Shaker.

This powdered sugar shaker came to me as I was tired of using a spoon to try and sprinkle on powdered sugar. I had become accustomed to the nicer look of a fine dusting, and large blobs of powdered sugar just don't have the same effect.

How to Make a Powdered Sugar Shaker

Step 1 - Use your canning lid as a guide and cut out a circle from the splatter guard.

You will need to remove the wire mesh from the outer ring first. Then cut out the circle. If you have wire cutters, USE THEM. I was too lazy to go out to the garage, and these old scissors did not cut well. Definitely do not use any scissors you care about because cutting the wire will ruin them.

Step 2 - Insert the wire mesh into the canning ring.

 It doesn't matter if it's a little large in spots, just bend it into place.

Step 3 - Add some powdered sugar to your jar. Put the lid on and voila!

I like to sprinkle powdered sugar on brownies and german pancakes.
