Today, I'm sharing all about a new piece of furniture in my craft room with an honest review of the Autonomous SmartDesk2. I received the desk in exchange for my review of the product. All opinions are mine.
I am fortunate enough to have a craft room dedicated to all my creative endeavors. I had set up a long folding table to spread out my work on. Unfortuntately, it was a bit too large and made it hard to navigate to other parts of the room.
BEFORE LONG TABLE |
So when Autonomous reached out inquiring if I'd like to review their adjustable standing desk, I was on board right away. I opted to review their classic sized SmartDesk2 which is PERFECT for my space.
It's a little bit shorter in length than the table I had previously so it's much easier to walk past it to get into the rest of the room. But it still has the depth needed to spread out my craft projects.
AFTER - SMART DESK 2 |
As you all know, I've been really getting into quilting. This desk is ideal for quilting. The large top fits my biggest cutting mat along with my sewing machine and ironing mat.
Since it's adjustable, I can stand to cut out all the pieces instead of hunching over a shorter table. It's the ultimate standing desk for my small workspace. And it's really going to save my back!
AUTONOMOUS DESK REVIEW: ADJUSTABLE STANDING DESK
Let's talk a little bit about Autonomous. They are dedicated to helping people work smarter. They saw the need for sit-stand desks at an affordable price. The result is a high quality desk that's sturdy and easily adjustable to sit or to stand all at a price that won't break the bank.So let's talk about the pros and cons.
PROS OF THE SMART DESK 2:
It's adjustable to stand or sit at!
I think this is my favorite thing about this desk. It's equipped with a sleek control panel. Adjust the height up or down with the arrows. It will adjust anywhere from 28 inches up to 47 inches.
Once you find the perfect working height, save it as a preset. Next time all you have to do is push the button and it will automatically adjust.
Since there are 4 preset buttons, several different people can use the desk and still have it customized to them.
It comes in a variety of colors and sizes.
The top comes in 5 different colors. The base comes in 3 different colors. Mix and match the colors to fit your aesthetic. I opted for all white. It's going to be great to film how-to videos with that clean white background.
The top also comes in two sizes. The classic (which I got) is 53 X 29 inches. The XL top is 70 X 30 inches.
The desk top is deep.
There is plenty of room to spread out your work with this desk. As a crafter, I always have several supplies that I'm working with so having plenty of room to spread out my projects is a must.
No matter what you use the desk for, whether it's crafting or working, having plenty of room to spread out your stuff is a necessity.
It's sturdy and heavy duty.
It can hold up to 300 pounds and it's built like a tank. This desk is not going to tip over on you.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow.
You do have to assemble this desk. I found that the instructions were easy to understand and the assembly process was simple.
It came with all required bolts and screws as it should. There were two allen wrench tools. I did need to find my own phillips head screw driver for the screws.
I did have a few snags where I had to back track. For example, I got one of the cords trapped under the metal framing so I had to remove some of the screws to get the cord out. I also adjusted the length of the frame too large and had to re-adjust it once it was time to attach it to the top.
It's affordable.
I did a quick google search for affordable adjustable standing desk. I found a few other desks that were comparable in price, but NONE that were as sturdy or as large. So for the value, it is a great price. AND my readers get 10% off, just use the code 26DIYMOM at checkout!
CONS OF THE SMART DESK 2:
It's heavy.
This was definitely a two person job to put together. I had my 16 year old son help me. He hefted the boxes down the stairs for me. And I needed his help with some of the assembly because it was too heavy to flip around by myself.Moving it from place to place will be much easier with two people as well.
But all that being said, if you want durability and sturdiness, it's probably going to be kind of heavy.
No Storage.
I would definitely like a sliding drawer that's the full length of the desk to be able to keep items that I use regularly, but don't want cluttering the top.
There is a swivel desk drawer attachment (sold separately), but it's quite small, just enough big enough to hold pencils and such.
Took longer than expected to assemble.
Autonomous website suggests that the average time to set up the desk is 15-30 minutes. I found that even with the help of my son it took us an hour. Time well spent, but not as advertised.
I'm so happy with my new desk. It's so nice to be able to stand
So to recap, here's what makes this desk so good.
- It's adjustable
- It's customizable with different colors and sizes.
- It's sturdy and heavy duty
- It's the best affordable standing desk that I've seen out there.
