INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR SALTED CARAMEL FLAVORED HOT COCOA BOMBS

For the salted caramel flavor I'm relying on the Stephen's salted caramel hot cocoa mix.

It would be really yummy to add a drizzle of actual salted caramel, but including a wet ingredient like that into the actual hot chocolate bomb would lead to the cocoa mix getting all clumpy and gross.
So, for more salted caramel flavor, I suggest adding a squirt to your mug after you have dissolved the hot cocoa bomb.

HELPFUL KITCHEN TOOLS

The most important thing you will need to make hot chocolate bombs is a silicone mold. The size I recommend is one that has a 2 to 2 1/2 inch diameter. That way it will be large enough to hold the filling, but small enough to fit in a mug.

HOW TO MAKE SALTED CARAMEL HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS

Let's get started!

Let's talk about chocolate. I like using milk chocolate chips. They're inexpensive, they melt quickly and there's no need to temper the chocolate. Using higher quality chocolate would make delicious hot cocoa bombs, but I don't know much about tempering chocolate and chocolate chips are just easier.

Melt the chips in the microwave for about 1-2 minutes. The time needed will depend on your microwave. Be sure to stir every 30 seconds to avoid overheating.

Next, spoon chocolate into each section of the silicone mold. Spread it around with the back of a spoon to evenly coat the sides.
Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to harden. Meanwhile gather up the rest of the ingredients. Bring a pot of water to a boil and place a glass plate on top. We will use this to melt the ends of the chocolate to get the two halves to stick together.

When assembling the hot cocoa bombs, it is essential that you work quickly. If not, the chocolate can soften and melt while handling them.

Remove the chocolate from the mold. Place one shell, edge side down, on the hot plate. Twist it a couple times to melt the edge. Add 1 tablespoon of salted caramel cocoa mix and 1 teaspoon of marshmallows. Add some caramel bits if desired.

Melt the edge of another shell. Quickly place it on top of the filled shell with the two melted edges together. Smooth the area where they meet with your finger.

Place them back in the freezer for another 5 to 10 minutes.

Drizzle with melted white chocolate and sprinkle with sea salt while the chocolate is still wet.

Try these delicious salted caramel hot chocolate bombs.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk chocolate chips
  • 6 Tbsp. Salted Caramel flavored hot cocoa mix
  • 6 tsp. mini marshmallows (the freeze dried kind)
  • 1/2 c. white chocolate candy melt
  • sea salt, for sprinkling on top
  • 6 tsp. caramel bits, if desired
  • Salted caramel ice cream topping, if desired

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Make sure to stir every 30 seconds.
  2. Add a spoonful of melted chocolate to each section of the silicone mold. Spread the chocolate around to evenly coat the sides of the mold.
  3. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, bring a pot of water to a boil and place a plate on top. Gather all of your other ingredients.
  5. Working quickly, remove the chocolate from the mold. Place one chocolate shell on the hot plate with the edge facing down. Twist a few times until the edge melts slightly.
  6. Set the chocolate down (so your warm fingers don't melt it) and fill with 1 tablespoon of the cocoa mix, 1 teaspoon of marshmallows and caramel bits if desired.
  7. Melt the edge of another shell and place it on top of the filled shell. Smooth the seam of the ball with your finger.
  8. Continue this process for all of the hot chocolate bombs.
  9. Melt the white candy melts and drizzle them over the bombs. Sprinkle with sea salt before chocolate hardens.
  10. To serve, place the hot chocolate bomb in a mug. Pour 1 cup of really hot milk over the top. Add a squirt of salted caramel sauce and stir and enjoy!
