Cheesy Sausage and Pasta Skillet Dinner - Teaching Kids to Cook

This summer I'm teaching my kids to cook. So far, my son made chicken sandwiches. Today we're sharing an easy skillet dinner that my 8 year old daughter made.  Make sure you scroll to the end for the video! The kids are so excited to be on YouTube. It doesn't seem to matter that I only have 3 subscribers!

This meal is really simple and yummy. It's very easy to put together. The only thing that I was a bit nervous about was having her chop onions.  I ended up slicing them, and then she chopped up the slices. The other thing she had trouble with was mincing the garlic. Her little hands just aren't strong enough to squeeze the press. Other than that, she did it all by herself - you can watch in the video below.

Print Recipe

1 T. olive oil
3 T. onion, chopped
1 package polish sausage, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (14 oz) can fire roasted tomatoes
8 oz. pasta
2 c. water
2 t. chicken bouillon powder
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. cheddar cheese, grated

Heat oil in a skillet, add onions and sausage and cook until they start to brown.
Add garlic, tomatoes, water, chicken bouillon and milk. Stir in pasta. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and cook 10-12 minutes, covered, until the pasta is cooked.
Drain some of the remaining liquid, so that the pasta is not soupy.
Add cheese and stir until melted.
