INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR BAKED HAM SANDWICHES

  • Kings Hawaiian Rolls
  • ham slices (or roast beef)
  • swiss cheese (provolone pairs well with roast beef)
  • butter
  • mustard (regular or dijon are both good)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • dried onions
  • poppy seeds (optional)

HELPFUL KITCHEN TOOLS

The 7 X 11 pan fits the rolls fairly well, but if you don't have one, just use what you have. I think a disposable foil pan actually works quite well to crisp up the bottoms.

HOW TO MAKE HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS

Begin by slicing the Hawaiian rolls in half. Place the bottom half a the 7 X 11 glass baking dish.

Place 1-2 slices of ham on each roll. Top with a slice of cheese and the top of the roll.

Heat the butter, mustard, Worcestershire, dried onions and poppy seeds  in a saucepan until butter is melted.

Brush onto the tops of the rolls.

Cover the pan with foil and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 5 minutes uncovered. This allows the moisture to leave the rolls so they're not soggy.

How to Keep Sliders from Getting Soggy

Remove the foil during the last 5 or so minutes of baking. This will allow the moisture to escape and will help crisp up the buns.

It is also recommended to eat the sliders right away. They tend to get soggy the longer they sit around.

Can Sliders be Made Ahead of Time?

Yes, assemble the meat, cheese and rolls a day or two ahead of time. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. Top with the buttery glaze right before baking to avoid soggy rolls.

Can You Freeze Hawaiian Roll Sliders?

Yes, assemble the meat, cheese and rolls and top with butter glaze. Cover pan with plastic wrap and freeze immediately. Thaw for an hour or two before baking. OR bake straight from the freezer and add 10 minutes to the baking time.
