HOW TO MAKE A WOVEN HEART QUILT BLOCK
The woven heart is a simple block featuring a nine patch and striped units. The alternating colors give the block the woven illusion.MAKING THE NINE PATCH
Let's get started by making a nine patch.Select the 5 red and 4 pink squares.
Arrange them in a 3 X 3 grid. The red squares should be in the corners and the center. The pink squares should be on the sides.
Sew each row together. Press toward the red squares.
Sew the rows to each other, nesting seams as you go. Press the seams towards the edges.
MAKING THE STRIPED UNITS
Next, we'll make the striped units of the block.Select the four pink rectangles and the four cream squares.
Place each square on a the end of a rectangle.
Stitch on the cream squares from corner to corner.
Note: Pay attention to the direction of your diagonal seam. Work in pairs and make sure the seams mirror each other.
Trim 1/4" from the seam on the triangle side.
Press open.
Now it's time to assemble our striped units.
Select two (mirrored) pink/cream rectangles and a red rectangle.
Arrange the pink on either side of the red. The unit will resemble a barn.
Sew the pieces together. Press toward the red center strip.
Repeat to make two units.
ASSEMBLING THE BLOCK
Now that all the pieces are made, it's time to assemble the block.
Arrange the units in a 2 X 2 grid to create a four patch.
Place the nine patch in the bottom left corner.
Place the one striped unit to the right of the nine patch and the other above the nine patch.
Lastly, place the cream square diagonally to the right of the nine patch.
Sew together each row. Press the seams in opposite directions.
