I love the idea of dream catchers and the Native American culture catching the bad dreams and negative energies in the web and letting good dreams filter down into your mind while you sleep.
This is just a fun spider web dream catcher tutorial that you can make just for a beautiful dream catcher as a Halloween version.

HOW TO MAKE A SPIDERWEB DREAMCATCHER (HALLOWEEN DIY)
Making homemade decor is a favorite part of every holiday for me.Recently I've been steering clear of Halloween but thought a natural, chic, spiderweb would be the perfect decor any time of year, really.
I love that the hoop is a hexagon, that makes this build super simple and unique.
This web dream catcher is very simple, just a few knots, a couple craft supplies and some wrapping.
Let's get started!
I love the hexagon hoop, but any metal ring or macrame hoops would work too!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR SPIDERWEB DREAMCATCHER
- Hexagon Wire Frame
- Macramé Cord
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
HOW TO MAKE SPIDERWEB BASE
Begin by cutting 3 pieces of macrame cord about 4 inches longer then the length of the hexagon frame. Then tie one end to the center of the hexagon section and pull tight.
Repeat the process by pulling the cord firmly across the open span and tying it directly across on the hexagon frame.
Tie the cord with just a simple overhand knot, no need to do a double knot here.
Repeat this tying process for the other 2 strands of macrame cord in the corresponding sections of the hexagon loop.
Once the three strands are tied tightly, you'll see the shape of the spiderweb already taking shape.
Secure the knots by adding a little dot of hot glue and then wrapping the loose end of the cord around the glue and the hexagon frame twice.
Wrapping the cord right into a bead of hot glue, use caution, as the hot glue can burn your fingers. Use silicone finger covers if desired and press the excess string into the glue.
Finally snip the end of the cord close to the wrap. Then use a little bit more hot glue and the back of the scissors to press all the cord strands around the frame.
Repeat the gluing for all 6 knotted ends.
HOW TO WEAVE SPIDERWEB
Now take a piece of macrame cord that is about 6 feet long. Tie it about 1/2 inch from the center of the hoop on one of the strands.Add a dot of hot glue before tying to ensure that it will stay in place. Tie a simple overhand knot.
Now pull the cord to the next strand and wrap it around one time. Then pull the cord to the next strand and wrap it there, creating the first layer of the web, keeping them close to the center and even with the beginning knot.
Continue the process of wrapping in an outward spiral, getting a little farther from the center each time. You will see this beautiful spiderweb forming...and can make the strands as close together as you desire.
Continue wrapping the spiderweb lines until you get all the way to the edge near the hexagon frame hoop.
When satisfied with the spider web, tie the macrame cord at the starting knot and hot glue it in place securely.
Trim the excess macrame cord and enjoy for a moment before moving on to the next step.
FINISH OFF DREAMCATCHER
Let's finish off the spider web dream catcher with some long strands of macrame cord.Cut 5 pieces of 18 inch cord. Find the center of the cord and pull the ends through it around the hoop.
This knot is called a girth hitch or lark's head. Repeat for all 5 pieces of cord.
MAKE THE SPIDER
The final step is to add the spider to its beautiful web.I love that this little spider is a natural part of the macrame cord and the boho look.
You can make a spider out of felt if you want something a little more bold.
Take a piece of macrame cord about 4 inches long. Wrap it around the single knot starting point twice and then tie it in an overhand knot right on the top center of the bulge.
Clip the end of the string about 1/2 inch from the knot and fray the ends to make little spider legs.
Using the loose end as legs is a fun way to make the spider woven webs. The back of the dream catcher looks nearly identical, but the spider pops up on the front.
You can get more creative; add flowers, ribbon loops or bows.
Add ribbons and feathers to the macrame cord dangles.
Or wood/metal cut files from Dollar Tree that say "Spooky" or something.
Or add some simple greenery.
It's a good idea to make it basic first and then add additional elements.
That's it! You can hang directly from the top of the hoop or tie a loop of macrame cord on the top for hanging.
This spiderweb dreamcatcher is perfect for holiday decor without screaming scary Halloween. It's great for year round decor or anyone who loves dreamcatchers. I love how simple and unique it looks!
What do you think of this gorgeous macrame dreamcatcher? Is this something you would make for you home decor? Do you know someone who would just love it?
This simple dream catcher is a great craft for older kids, ladies craft nights, or a church group creative activity.
